Plastic Free in Vic Park: Urban Revolution

July 1, 2017

Vic Parkians are spoilt for choice when it comes to refusing single use plastic. Over July, we will be highlighting the businesses in the hood most committed to help us ditch the plastic habit.

Did you know Vic Park has one of the very few shops offering sustainable alternatives to every day products in Perth? Urban Revolution opened its doors at 284 Albany Hwy in March and it’s been thriving ever since.

Owner Jo Bussell is passionate about making it easier for people to sit lighter on the planet. With a background in engineering and permaculture, she has done tons of research to find the best products, and is happy to share her knowledge with customers.

“Conventional products are certainly cheaper at face value, but the environmental cost of the product isn’t factored into the tag price”, she says.

“Some plastics don’t break down for seven generations, and that’s quite a gift to leave to our sons and daughters”.

Jo has been seeing an increasing flow of customers, including residents of other suburbs, looking for reusable veggie bags, coffee cups and crockery, as well as gardening tools and composting equipment.

“One of our best sellers is the dog poo composter”, she says, adding that there are alternatives to pretty much every product.

“Our products are as local as possible, we even have bulk tea hand-blended in Vic Park and honey from Vic Park hives!”

If you’re starting the Plastic Free July challenge today, make Urban Revolution your first stop on the strip!
