laneway launch

On the evening of June 20, 2014 one of Vic Park’s most underutilised spaces (at the time) was transformed into a vibrant open air bar to launch the town’s newest public art piece.

The Laneway Launch saw the space between Ten Ten restaurant and the IGA supermarket closed for the special event, with members of the public invited to celebrate the new graffiti mural.

Globally renowned artists The Yok and Sheryo were commissioned by the Vic Park Collective, and made possible through a contribution of around $11,000 through the Town of Victoria Park’s Albany Highway Activation budget. The mural is the artists’ interpretation of the magical flying dragon Falcor, from the film The Neverending Story.

To officially unveil the mural, a public street party was held, featuring Bar Pop pop up bar, food trucks from Little Caesar’s Pizza and Jumplings, live art display and music from Systematic. Residents were invited to see the transformation of the laneway and find out more about the Vic Park Collective and have their say on their vision for the town. A survey was released at the event to gain some feedback from the community about their vision for the town. Since then, the laneway has been activated for several events including the Summer Street Party and TGIF Hawkers Markets.
