Plastic Free in Vic Park: The Source Bulk Foods

Source Bulk Foods sell food in bulk so you only buy what you need

Imagine what a difference it would make if manufacturers and retailers made unpackaged goods more readily available.

That’s what The Source Bulk Foods is about, and we are lucky in Vic Park to have a branch at the Park Centre.

There are people who travel a long way to shop here”, says owner Kathy Stonehouse.

She’s been operating the store for 18 months and has noticed an increase in business in the last month or so.

It could be that more people are paying attention to their plastic habit after the ABC raised awareness through the War on Waste documentary.

Or maybe it’s just that more customers are discovering a shopping experience in which you BYO containers, buy as much as you want, try some new healthy products, and enjoy time for a chat.

All of that free of waste, as there is no single use plastic in store.

In the beginning people requested plastic bags”, says Kathy. “But not anymore. For people in the area, plastic free shopping is becoming part of their lives”.

Kathy is happy to support local initiatives that match her store’s ethos, such as Boomerang Bags, which will be available to be borrowed from Source in mid-July.

Source Bulk Foods will help you refill your own containers.

At Source Bulk Foods customers bring in their own reusable jars and fill them as they need.
